🛡️ What is a WebRTC Leak?

WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communication) is a browser feature that enables video/audio chat directly in your browser. However, it can reveal your real IP address even when using a VPN, potentially exposing your location and identity.

How WebRTC Leaks Occur:

• STUN Requests: WebRTC uses STUN servers to discover your public IP for peer-to-peer connections
• Local Network Discovery: Can expose your local (private) IP addresses
• VPN Bypass: Operates independently of VPN tunnel, revealing real IP
• Browser Default: WebRTC is enabled by default in most browsers

🔧 How to Prevent WebRTC Leaks

• Disable WebRTC: Use browser settings or about:config (Firefox) to disable WebRTC
• Browser Extensions: Install WebRTC Leak Prevent (Chrome) or Disable WebRTC (Firefox)
• Use Brave Browser: Has built-in WebRTC leak protection
• VPN with WebRTC Protection: Some VPNs include WebRTC leak protection features
• Firefox Settings: Set media.peerconnection.enabled to false in about:config
• Chrome Extensions: WebRTC Leak Prevent or uBlock Origin (Advanced settings)
• Test Regularly: Check for leaks after changing VPN servers or browser settings

• Firefox:
  1. Type about:config in address bar
  2. Search for media.peerconnection.enabled
  3. Set to false
• Chrome/Edge:
  1. Install "WebRTC Leak Prevent" extension
  2. Configure to "Disable non-proxied UDP"
• Safari:
  1. Preferences → Advanced → Show Develop menu
  2. Develop → Experimental Features → Disable WebRTC
